Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has once again proven that development, not distractions, is his focus. On Tuesday, he commissioned the reconstructed Okehi/Umuola/Eberi Link Road, a vital 11.8km project connecting the agrarian local governments of Etche and Omuma.
This road, completed within just five months, is more than asphalt, it’s a lifeline for the hardworking farmers and residents of these food-producing LGAs. Known as the food baskets of Rivers State, Etche and Omuma contribute significantly to the state’s agricultural output with staples like yam, cassava, plantain, corn and vegetables.
Speaking at the commissioning, Governor Fubara highlighted the neglect Omuma LGA endured under previous administrations, pledging to reverse the trend by ensuring every part of Rivers State benefits from governance. “This road is not just about connectivity; it’s about development and inclusion,” he said.
The governor explained that the road, designed with modern specifications, 7.3 meters in width, a 150mm stone base and a durable 50mm binder and wearing course was prioritized because of its strategic importance. It serves as a gateway to Omuma, where the governor is also constructing the Omodu-Eberi-Omuma Road, which will connect Rivers to Abia State.
Governor Fubara reiterateed the economic potential this project unlocks. “With this road, we are empowering the people. We are enabling faster movement of farm produce, improving trade, and ultimately boosting the GDP of Rivers State.”
Farmers in the region, who have long endured the challenges of transporting their goods on bad roads, can now access markets faster and more efficiently, ensuring higher earnings and reduced post-harvest losses.
Governor Fubara’s performance is particularly commendable given the challenges and political distractions aimed at derailing his administration. Despite these hurdles, he remains undeterred, delivering on promises and solidifying his reputation as a leader focused on results, not rhetoric.
The commissioning of the Okehi/Umuola/Eberi Link Road is another testament to Governor Fubara’s resolve to leave no part of Rivers State behind. His administration’s approach is clear: development for all, regardless of societal status or political leanings.
The people of Etche and Omuma are now witnessing the tangible benefits of this commitment, with a road that not only connects their communities but also their dreams for a better future. Governor Fubara has once again raised the bar for governance, proving that distractions are no match for determination.
