The Nigeria Army’s 35 Artillery Brigade in Alamala, Abeokuta, announced on Tuesday the handover of 441 parcels of suspected cannabis sativa, weighing 223kg and resembling pawpaws, to the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency, Ogun State Command.

Lt. Mohammed Goni, the acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for the Brigade, disclosed this in a statement to journalists.

Goni noted that troops intercepted a Mazda bus with registration number NRK 622 SB transporting the substance on Friday, March 29, 2024, at Mologbede village in Odeda Local Government Area of the state.

Brigadier General Mohammed Aminu, Commander of 35 Artillery Brigade, commended the troops for their diligence and urged them to maintain vigilance in their respective area.

The statement partly read, β€œThe Commandant, NDLEA Ogun State Command, Commander of Narcotics Jane Ibiba Odili, in her remarks stated that she was highly excited over the synergy that exists between the military and other security agencies in the state.

β€œShe said General Aminu has truly been very supportive of NDLEA operations, which has led to significant successes achieved by the agency.

β€œOdili said this was not the first time such large quantity of Cannabis Sativa was intercepted by the military and handed over to the agency.

β€œShe further stated that with the support of the military, the NDLEA was able to break boundaries, burst drug syndicates, and achieve a holistic outcome in its overall drug fighting efforts.”
